Company History
Good Sounds has been delivering audiovisual, home automation, and entertainment systems in Southern California for more than 40 years. Serving Orange County cities like Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, and Dana Point, as well as the Coachella Valley cities of La Quinta and Palm Springs, Good Sounds continues to be a technical innovator in residential AV. Here’s a brief history of our founding and progression over the past decades:
-
1980
In 1980, Mitch Goodz started a business to install music systems in custom homes to address what he saw as a glaring void in the high-end home building market. As an LA native, Mitch was well aware of the fabulous entertainment systems that sprang up in the custom residences of Beverly Hills, Hollywood and Malibu; beneficiaries of the entertainment industries technological wonders. But south of LA in neighboring Orange County large-scale custom residences were being built on prime Harbor Front properties. These properties were both overlooking and hugging the coast as well as some that sat directly on the beach. These world-class residences had no entertainment systems. No speakers. No music. My goal was to educate both homeowner and contractor that the homes they were building were missing one very key component. Everyone likes music and music makes a house come alive. Instead of figuring out where to place the speakers and run wires after the home was built, we encouraged a different approach by designing the entertainment system into the construction of the home. This was the essence of Good Sounds.
-
We started off with the revolutionary idea of creating a company that specialized in installing multi-room music systems in custom homes. With stereo equipment located in a central location we installed speaker cable and stereo speakers with individual room volume controls. With the control hidden in the wall people could magically and elegantly enjoy and control music throughout their home and exterior living spaces. With the advent of surround sound technology becoming available for the consumer market in the early to mid 1980’s our company was one of the very first to offer an installed Home Theater experience for our clients. The consumer electronics industry embraced home theater as the Holy Grail and a technological revolution was launched that continues to this day.

1990
Designing and installing projects that now consisted of Whole House Music Systems and Home Theater Systems demanded a unified, ergonomic control system that would allow a homeowner to pick up a single remote control and effortlessly command the homes entertainment system. Good Sounds was a pioneer in bringing technology from computer based control system products into the home for the express purpose of providing it’s clients with a powerful, scalable, customizable user interface; a remote control which allowed anyone to operate a small or large scale Whole House Entertainment System. A strategic alliance with Crestron, the industry leader in control systems, began in 1991 and continues to this day.

2000
By 2000 Good Sounds system designs encompassed full Home Automation Systems. We were involved on many levels of custom home design and construction beginning with the architect and interior designer. Control system technology developments enabled us to provide a fully customized user interface for our homeowners to operate their lighting, climate control, shades, pool/spa & water features and security/camera systems in addition to their music and video systems from a single user friendly touch screen or hand-held remote control. From 2000 to the present Good Sounds has completed a number of ultra high end custom residences in the exclusive private communities at Newport Coast and Shady Canyon in addition to spectacular residences in the coastal communities from Dana Point and Laguna Beach to Newport and Huntington Harbors.

2010
In 2010 Good Sounds became a Dealer for Savant Systems, a new control system based on the Apple iOS operating system platform. Savant provides for seamless communication between a software driven control system and the hardware we use to communicate with it. With iPad, Min-iPad, iTouch and iPhone as native members of the Savant family the power and ease of use in Home Control Systems has taken a giant leap forward.

2020
Good Sounds continues its strategic relationship with Savant Systems, implementing the latest in cutting-edge distributed digital video and audio systems, featuring 4K video over IP on fiber optic cable and high-resolution IP streaming audio services. Savant continues to push the boundaries on the user interface with its powerful and flexible Pro App for iPhone and iPad. The app now provides many opportunities for the homeowner to add customized touches to the interface such as room views and user buildable scenes for video, audio, lighting, and climate control. The experience for the end user has entered a new era where the homeowner is not dependent on a specialized programmer to add features to the control system app. Lighting systems and motorized shading systems are now part of the product lineup offered by Good Sounds. In addition, the design, deployment, and administration of powerful cloud-based network systems has become a core part of what Good Sounds offers. Another key service is providing system upgrades in high-end custom residences that were built prior to the advent of pre-wire for category cabling, using specialized networking hardware.
